Early Beginnings

Henson’s early beginnings was in 1938 when a young school teacher from Baliuag, Bulacan decided that she would quit her humble profession and start a micro business by making toddlers’ suits for boys and girls. Mrs. Paz Rodriguez Henson bought two Singer sewing machines and started to make children’s clothes in her rented apartment in Tayuman, Manila. She sold her clothes in fine clothing stores along Escolta St. and Avenida Rizal during the pre-war era. Her small business was soon flourishing but was abruptly interrupted by the Second World War.

Progressive Growth

After the war, she was back in business and soon after she transferred to a bigger place in Economia St. Then they later moved to its present location in Simoun St. both in Sampaloc, Manila. By the end of the 1950’s, her shop was transformed into a factory employing more than 30 workers. Mrs. Henson was cited by then Pres. Ramon Magsaysay for pioneering the garment industry.

Her daughter, Roseni Henson Orosa and other family members assisted her in managing the family enterprise. Soon, the name “Henson” was synonymous to specially crafted clothes with unique designs for boys and girls. The company was producing toddler’s sets, boys sets, girls dresses, pajamas, baptismal gowns, overalls, jumpers, shorts and long pants, jeans, shirts and blouses, you name it, they got it.

By 1966, her family business was incorporated and “Mommy Henson”, as she is fondly called by her workers, continued to cater the clothing needs of the Filipino children nationwide. The company continued to grow until the 1980’s and began exporting to the U.S., Australia and Saudi Arabia. The company then acquired the latest technology and machines for the factory
